Hazel fencing to protect bluebells

hazel fencing

This fence was constructed last year, with the help of BTCV, and was designed to protect the bluebell area. Unfortunately, virtually all the hazel weavers had been removed, leaving this area open. The fence was reinstated in early March but within 24 hours, all the weavers had been removed again! Fortunately, they had all been stacked up neatly against the fence (the N2 den-building instinct seems quite deeply ingrained!) so once reinstated for a third time, it will be properly tied in to discourage further dismantling.
